I was tired of maintaining the swimming pool, but hated the idea of filling it in with dirt. Besides, if the house were to ever be sold, a swimming pool is an asset. So I wanted something that could be temporary, in case the new owners wanted a pool. So this I felt was the best alternative, and looks good to. And some mornings I love to sit out by the Koi pond and drink my coffee. One early morning, a baby fox came bounding up in the backyard, I kept still and it never saw me, while it played around the yard. There is a whole family of them living in a huge fox hole under one of my barns.
I first drained all the swimming pool water, and cleaned the walls and bottom to get rid of the chemical residues. I used 4X6 treated beams for the posts, and supports. I used treated 2X6's for the floor joists and the decking. I put different levels and plenty of places for the baby fish to hide, the older Koi will eat their eggs and babys till they have a little size. The water is all under the decking, and is 12 feet deep on the opposite end. The fountain is for oxygen, and just a submersible pump (about 100 dollars) with plastic PVC pipe with holes drilled in it. You can make a pretty water pattern by drilling in certain places. Mine is partially stopped up, I forgot to clean it for the video.
